Kenya is set to have a 2nd Referendum on the Constitution on August 4, 2010.


Countdown

July 16, 2010 - Two Party of National Unity vice chairmen George Nyamweya and Jamleck Kamau defect to the No camp.

July 16, 2010- Environment Minister, Hon. John Michuki joins the 'yes' camp. Before that he had opposed the draft constitution.

July 17, 2010 - Jamleck Kamau defects to the 'yes' camp at a rally presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta.

July 17, 2010 - 3 Congress members accuse US of funding Kenya's 'yes' camp.

July 22, 2010- Kenya MPs agree to go on recess to campaign for or against the draft constitution after having refused to go on recess until their salaries were increased.

July 22, 2010- Church calls for prayers for the Referendum. Comprised of Clergy pushing for a 'no' vote.

July 23, 2010 - US Ambassador, Michael Ranneberger says US will respect Kenya's referendum outcome whether yes or no.

July 23, 2010 - Kenya's electoral body (IIEC) has faulted the government for using senior civil servants to campaign for the proposed constitution..
